Automatic enrolment

Employers have a responsibility to enroll employees into a pension scheme if they:

  • are aged between 22 and State Pension Age
  • they earn over the personal income tax threshold
  • they are not already in a qualifying pension scheme
  • work in the UK

This is called ‘automatic enrolment’ and is designed to make it easier for people to start saving and have more to live on in later life than just the State Pension.

Large employers are enrolling their workers first, with smaller employers following suit.

Each employer will have their own date for when they need to comply with the new rules.

Please contact your HR/Payroll department if you would like to know more.

What if I’m already a member of the FPS?

There will be no change to your current arrangements and your FPS membership will continue.

What if I don’t want to join a pension scheme?

You can opt out of the FPS at any time. There’s more information on our Opting out section.
